Focus

Focus

Focus is something our world lacks in this day and age. Our attention is so easily captivated by the next best product, the parties, school, small struggles, shiny things, and literally anything and everything. In fact, you probably won't read this entire thing without picking up your phone at least once to answer a text or scroll through Instagram. Yeah-- I struggle there too.

I've come to realize that it is crucial to focus on the Lord in order to keep a relationship with him, retain an eternal perspective, and live out each day with the mindset to follow Him. He warns us of the world; He warns us of the distractions and the doubt. The story of Peter walking on water is such a great reminder of what happens when we lose sight of Jesus.

Jesus calls Peter to come, walk on the water, and reach him. Peter gets out of the boat and begins walking on water straight toward Jesus. But then... but then Peter looks around at the storm surrounding him. He becomes afraid. He sees the wind and the waves, and he has doubt.

Doubt can basically be defined as uncertainty and hesitance. This means when you doubt you are split in two.

Peter saw the storm, lost sight of Jesus, and when he began to doubt his conditions and worry for himself, HE BEGAN TO SINK. Jesus called him out. He said, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
It is so important to focus on Jesus right in front of us. When we begin to worry, to doubt we begin to sink. We quit having faith that Jesus will keep us afloat when things get stormy. But the cool thing is, when we do start to sink—Jesus will also be the first person to pull you back out of the water.

I challenge you to lift your eyes upon Jesus, to focus on him fully. He will keep you afloat you just have to have faith.
